Jann Sandøy, Træna

Jann Sandøy grew up in Sandøy, a small island in Træna municipality, located on the Arctic Circle along Norway’s Helgeland coast. He has dedicated much of his life to caring for the local eider ducks, building small nesting houses to protect them.

Beyond his work with wildlife, he plays a vital role in the island community. He has worked to preserve historic buildings, transformed his old barn into a museum showcasing local artifacts, and educates schoolchildren about the region’s history and the importance of protecting eider ducks.
